YUX - The Yamaha U3 has been manufactured in Japan since the mid 1950's. The YUX models were built between 1980 and 1983. Over the 50 years plus that Yamaha have been building the U3 model not a lot has changed other than cosmetic differences to the model.

The YUX offers great value to a player who wants a piano with a rich full sound. The height of the U3 is responsible for the rich tone that the model is famous for. The 131cm tall cabinet gives plenty of room for long bass strings, which give a full rich sounding bass register. The sound from the YUX is better than most small grand pianos.

Yamaha use the best of their timbers to build their U3 series professional uprights. The heart of the piano is the solid Sitka spruce soundboard, which is used to amplify the tone of the piano and produce the sound you hear. Using a solid timber for the soundboard rather than a laminated soundboard gives the piano a bigger and fuller sound.

The UX100 was made in Japan between around 1994-1997 and is another model with the X-shaped frame around the back. You should consider these models to be on a par with the Yamaha UX1 as we have always enjoyed playing them. UX100 is an improved version of UX1 You’ll notice that this model has the front panel split into 3 sections compared with the solid 1-piece panel found on the Yamaha U1.
